Geriatric Care Management

Hyannis Massachusetts Elder Care Planning Attorneys

It's never easy when an elderly parent or loved one finds it increasingly difficult to take care of themselves. In order to avoid financial and legally difficulties associated with Medicaid eligibility, taxes, and probate, it's important that steps be taken as soon as possible to create a stable, thorough geriatric care management plan. The law office of Haddleton & Associates assists adult children of elderly parents in developing medical and financial solutions that address everything from finding institutional care to establishing a guardianship to creating wills and trusts. Accessible and consultative, our office routinely works with out-of-state adult children concerned about the care and well-being of their loved ones. We visit nursing homes and attend quarterly review meetings, check in on elderly parents living alone, and can help arrange in-home nursing care.

We have the legal and medical knowledge needed to secure your loved one's health care and financial future. To schedule a consultation to discuss how we can help you, contact elder law attorneys at Haddleton & Associates today.

Determining the Needs of Clients: Our Nurse and Social Worker

In order to determine the needs of our clients, Ms. Judy Anthony, R.N., a registered nurse and social worker, meets with each client in order to conduct a psychological, medical, and safety evaluation of them. Ms. Anthony determines what support systems an elderly person currently has, what their medical needs are, and whether they are in a position to manage their affairs without assistance. Ms. Anthony has extensive experience in working with elderly people and brings the following qualifications to her job:

  • Worked with Alzheimer patients for over 20 years
  • Certified trainer of care givers
  • Certified care manager
  • Runs a support group for caregivers

Ms. Anthony works closely with our attorneys throughout the evaluation process to ensure each client's financial and medical situation is taken into account when planning how best to accommodate their health care needs.

Why It's Important to Begin Planning Now

While penalties may attach to the lack of timeliness ("look back" period) when transferring assets in the attempt to qualify for Medicaid, other financial and legal problems can arise if you delay in developing an elder law plan. Tax issues can complicate selling or transferring a home while waiting until someone falls ill can make establishing certain kinds of trust untenable. Our elder law attorneys can help your elderly love one protect themselves while providing the medical care they need.
